On November 26, 2010 Tim Myers and Fred Ireland had never heard of one another. Tim is a semi-retired general contractor who lives in Colorado while Fred owns a Physical Therapy practice in eastern North Carolina. After that day however, a series of events unfolded that would be the genesis of the Haiti School Project.
National Public Radio’s (NPR) Planet Money aired a piece on November 26th, 2010 about a school that was started in L’Artibonite Haiti with funds donated by NPR listeners, but whose construction came to a halt when all funds were depleted and only a foundation was built.
Tim and Fred, before knowing each other, were so moved by the story that they each contacted Planet Money to find out more about the unfinished school. With the help of Adam Davidson of NPR, the two were introduced and formed a partnership that would turn into the Haiti School Project.
The goal of the Haiti School Project is to complete the construction of the school in Haiti. The Haiti School Project has since partnered with the non-profit BRUTE LABS, to raise the funds needed for the school.
